Senior Medical Imaging Software Engineer

Lead the development of a bespoke software platform for managing large-scale medical imaging datasets — powering critical research analysis and international collaboration alongside a world-class Alberta research team.

About the Role

At Triomind, we build Agentic AI frameworks that sit alongside enterprise systems to automate complex workflows across facilities, assets, and capital programs. This is a role for engineers who want to ship AI that real institutions depend on — not another demo.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and optimize a web-based platform for ingesting, organizing, viewing, and sharing large medical imaging datasets (DICOM and related formats).
  • Develop high-performance backend services and data pipelines for imaging storage, indexing, and distribution across institutions and international collaborators.
  • Implement and extend browser-based imaging viewers and tooling, integrating with open ecosystems such as OHIF Viewer and Cornerstone 3D where appropriate.
  • Collaborate closely with clinicians, researchers, and cross-functional partners to turn real research workflows into reliable software features.
  • Uphold security, privacy, and compliance standards appropriate to healthcare and research data handling.
  • Mentor other engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and pair programming; raise the overall technical bar of the team.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong foundations in algorithms, data structures, and system architecture.
  • Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript / JavaScript and Python; working knowledge of C / C++ for performance-critical imaging components.
  • Deep experience with modern web frameworks (React preferred; exposure to Angular or Vue welcome) and backend stacks built on Node.js / Express.
  • Strong SQL skills (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and familiarity with NoSQL stores such as MongoDB.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and / or Google Cloud Platform, Docker-based deployment, and production observability tooling.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and strong written and verbal communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada; able to travel to Calgary as needed for client collaboration.

Nice to Have

  • Direct experience with Cornerstone 3D and the Open Health Imaging Foundation (OHIF) Viewer.
  • Hands-on experience with the Kheops image-sharing platform.
  • Prior collaboration with Radical Imaging or similar specialist medical imaging software teams.
  • Understanding of the software needs of high-level medical research teams and international research consortia.
  • Familiarity with healthcare technology standards (DICOM, HL7, FHIR) and compliance frameworks (HIPAA, PHIPA, PIPEDA, FOIP).
